Cookies and scripts, in plain words
- Cookies are small text files your browser keeps, so a website can remember something between pages or visits, such as your cookie choices.
- Scripts are small pieces of code that run on a page to make something work, such as counting visits or playing a video.
Neither one gives us your name, and nothing on this site reads your medical information. If you send us a message, what happens to it is explained in the privacy policy.
The kinds we use
- Necessary. The site cannot work properly without these: loading pages safely, sending a form, and remembering your cookie choices. They are always on.
- Statistics. These tell us which pages are read and how people find them, so we know which articles help and which need work. They run only if you allow them.
- Embedded media. Videos and posts from other websites, such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, shown inside our pages. These run only if you allow them, and the company that provides them may set its own cookies.
What this site uses
- Your cookie choices. The site remembers whether you accepted or declined, so it does not ask again on every page.

- Kept for: up to 12 months
- Cloudflare. Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks. It may set a short-lived cookie that helps tell real visitors from automated traffic.

- Forms. When you fill in a form on the site, a cookie may be used for the length of your visit to send it securely and to block spam.

- Matomo. Our own analytics, run on our own server, not by an advertising company. It records the pages visited, how long you stayed and the website you came from. Your IP address is anonymised.

_pk_id, kept for 13 months, and_pk_ses, kept for 30 minutes - Cloudflare Web Analytics. Counts page visits and measures how quickly pages load.

- YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. When a page shows a video or post from one of these, it loads only after you allow embedded media.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share what these tools collect for advertising.
Changing your choices
On your first visit, a banner lets you:
- accept all cookies
- decline everything that is not necessary
- choose kind by kind
What to do
You can change your choices at any time through the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser’s settings. If you block necessary cookies, parts of the site may not work.
Cookies from other companies
If you allow embedded media, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram may set cookies and collect information about your visit. What they do is governed by their own privacy policies, not ours.
We cannot control or change those cookies, so if you would rather avoid them, leave embedded media switched off.

We may update this policy when the site adds or removes a tool, or when the law changes. The version on this page is the current one.
